I explore storytelling in my artwork by portraying the everyday things around me in a new light. I study faces for shapes that create unique features and look for subtle colors on the surface. From there I allow imagination to take over, changing colors and exaggerating features as I please.  I work in watercolor as it allows me to explore texture and color through experimentations with blending, bleeding and layering.

Picture books combine my art style and my love of telling stories. To exaggerate the absurdity of my story, Do Ducks Know It’s Monday?, I decided to put rendered animals in unrealistic environments. Working in watercolor enhanced the lyrical quality of the poem, which wonders what different animals do on each day of the week. Through this process I learned how the pictures and the words grow and expand, each part changing and bettering itself in relation to the other.
