Identity is the culmination of our being and completely unique to us. My identity is a mix of dissonant morals, perceptions, and cultures. Since adolescence is when we start to form our identity, I chose to use a child’s eye’s lens for this project by using bright colors and toys. The surrealist movement, pop art, and lowbrow art were big inspirations throughout my work. The forming and re-combination of self is demonstrated through analog and sculptural collage. Juxtaposing different imagery and objects emerged as a resonant methodology for the fluctuating and complexity of identity. The exploration of my own identity began early in my college career as I struggled to find myself and come to terms with my identity as a queer woman. This research allowed me to better understand the fundamental pieces of identity and myself.
