A Home I’ve
Experienced
A Home I’ve Experienced is an exploration of my multicultural upbringing, focusing specifically on my Latinx background. The home I’m referencing in my work is my family and mamá (a common word of affection for grandma in the Dominican Republic) and her house in the Bronx, which has always felt like a second home to me. As a first-generation American I feel detached from my cultural identity, and this is partly due to the fact that I can’t speak Spanish fluently and have never lived in the Dominican Republic. Through this project I want to cultivate a familial atmosphere based on my environment growing up through the use of typefaces, print materials, and an autobiographical book to display the home I did experience.
